The occasionally holier-than-thou perception of Australian gambling group Tabcorp took a knock Friday when the company was found guilty on three charges of illegally luring punters to open new accounts by offering inducements.
The case, heard in a Sydney court, dates back to August 2015, when the company published a promo in a local newspaper offering bonus bets and other rewards as inducements.
Tabcorp denied the offences and defended the case, but the court found against the company, and is to pass sentence in February next year.
The 9News network reports that the case follows a string of recent similar prosecutions of betting agencies including Unibet, Bet365, Ladbrokes, ClassicBet and Sportsbetting.com.au.
