The Democratic Party Representative for Laredo in Texas, Richard Raymond, has announced his intention to introduce a bill in the state legislature next year that will declare daily fantasy sports to be a legal, skill-based activity within the borders of Texas.
If he is successful, his proposed bill will supercede the opinion issued in January this year by state Attorney General Ken Paxton that such contests are gambling under state law and are therefore illegal (see previous reports).
Justifying his intention to introduce a bill on the issue, Raymond said in a statement this week that success in DFS depends upon knowledge, research and planning, adding:
“Under existing law, it’s clear to me that it is legal, but I think Ken Paxton muddied up the waters so much that we have to straighten it out.”
