Police in Pattaya, Thailand have announced the break-up of an online gambling ring and the arrest of seven Chinese nationals believed to be associated with its operation.
Police spokesman Lt. Gen. Jitti Rodbangyang told reporters at a press conference Friday morning that the seven individuals detained had entered Thailand on student visas but for the past eight months have been operating an online gambling den, betting on sport results.
They were arrested at a rented house, where a police raiding team also seized 10 notebook computers, two wi-fi routers, lists of clients and other documentary evidence.
Jitti said the gang received bets from clients in Thailand totalling tens of millions of baht and transferred money to their principal abroad. He said the leader of the team was paid about Bt1.5 million a month for the job.
