Political squabbling and concerns around societal impacts have seen the proposed online national lottery system for Thailand on hold since 2010 , and reports this week in the Bangkok Post indicate that little progress on the political front has been made.
The new chief of the Government Lottery Office, former police officer Attakit Tharichat, told the newspaper that nothing is likely to happen until 2013 pending the hoped-for approval of the national government, now in the hands of the Pheu Tha administration.
The GLO chief said his organisation stands ready to resume the online lottery project if the government gives it the go-ahead following a public consultation, noting that the contract with Loxley GTech Technology, the contractor for the online lottery project, remains valid.
