Thai police bust online gambling gang

The police in Thailand have reported breaking up an online gambling and call scam ring in the Sadao district bordering Malaysia.

Police teams kept various residential premises in the area under surveillance for several months prior to mounting raids in which 23 Chinese nationals were arrested and 42 computers, together with other evidence of illegal gambling, were seized.

11 rented apartments and houses in all were visited by police teams late Wednesday night, a spokesman revealed. He said that the detained Chinese had been uncooperative, refusing to answer police questions.

The surveillance program was started following complaints by local residents that large numbers of Chinese people were at work, using computers around the clock.
