The respected business news publication Bloombergs has advocated US legalisation of online gambling in an editorial this week, suggesting that there are more pros than cons to the idea.
By 2023, according to a forecast by Bloomberg Industries, annual online gambling revenue could reach $23 billion nationwide. In a just world, it would be legal nationwide, too, the op-ed article observes, before going on to discuss the pros and the cons of the issue and advocating a federal rather than state-by-state solution.
The piece is well up to date, covering recent disturbances in the industry such as Sheldon Adelson’s latest anti-online gambling initiative and the launch of the New Jersey market.
And it appears to be significantly better-informed that the USA Today op-ed on the same subject which appeared last week.
The article concludes: “People clearly like gambling. Letting them do so where they want would make them happy. Regulating it properly would keep them safe. And taxing it all will make lawmakers smile. A decent trifecta, you might say.”
