Police in the Kabukicho district of Tokyo report closing down two digitally-based illegal gambling operations.

In the first, an illegal online casino titled RobRoy was closed to Japanese punters in a bust on an internet cafe acting as a front for the illegal offshore casino.

Police said that three persons were arrested in connection with the illegal activity, and revealed that the operation generated monthly income in excess of Yen 10 million ($90,000).

The second operation was more sophisticated and involved a land based venue equipped with the latest electronic gambling tables – a version of illegal gambling new to the police.

Ten individuals were arrested as investigators speculated that the operation was part of a yakuza organised crime network.
