TonyG achieves Danish licensing

Antanas Guoga (42), a Lithuanian-born Australian entrepreneur and professional poker player better known as TonyG, has big plans in Denmark for his Tonybet Poker, which has achieved Danish online poker licensing.

The site features the increasingly popular Open Face Chinese style of poker, which is now being offered to Danish online poker fans.

Sune Hansen, a Tonybet spokesperson, said the licensing process had not been easy, but that the Danish market has good potential, and the company has ambitious plans for promotional activity. This will include online and live tournaments for Open Face Chinese poker.

“We have big plans for the future,” Hansen revealed, adding that these included “…special tournaments, promotions, and even live events in Denmark.”

Official data released by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) show that Denmark’s domestic regulated market generated DKK 7.75 billion ($1.1 billion) in gross gaming revenue during 2014, representing a two-percent growth from the DKK 7.575 billion that was estimated in 2013, and a three-percent growth from the DKK 7.5 billion that was estimated in 2012 .

Denmark currently has thirteen licensed online poker sites, with operators like PokerStars, Full Tilt, Unibet, partypoker, betfair, and PKR already invested in the market.

Tonybet already operates a sportsbetting and casino presence in the Danish market, which the company entered in 2013.
