The prestigious and influential Professional Golfers’ Association Tour (PGA Tour) appears to be moving into a closer relationship with the online sports betting industry, reportedly issuing a request for proposals from sports data providers with a view to presenting real-time relevant tournament information to online sports betting companies.
Bloomberg business news reports that the request is at this stage merely exploratory and refers to a “potential entry into the online sports gaming category,” a position subsequently confirmed by a PGA Tour official.
The Tour will likely have to engage in some policy re-thinking if it decides the financial rewards are worth embarking on a new approach to online sports betting; last year the organisation prohibited its members from becoming involved in the daily fantasy sports sector on grounds that its legal status was unclear.
