The chief executive of the Uganda’s Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, Edgar Agaba, has informed reporters at a press conference that he has issued directions to Ugandan telecommunications agencies to require the ISP blocking of up to 500 online gambling websites accessing Ugandan punters without the necessary licensing and authority.
The initiative against online operators follows a purge of retail betting shops by teams from the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board which recently went after unlicensed or non-compliant land betting operators. Early reports suggest that as many as 30 retail betting enterprises in Kampala alone have been shuttered in the drive.
