Back in March this year the chief of French gambling regulator ARJEL, Jean-Francois Vilotte, outlined plans to collaborate more closely with his British and Italian equivalents and revealed that he was already in talks with AAMS and the UK Gambling Commission aimed at establishing a cooperation and information sharing relationship.
The initiative has clearly gone well, with Vilotte announcing that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the British regulator, represented by executive director Jenny Williams.
It is understood that similar arrangements are at an advanced stage with the Italians.
The closer relationships and synergy generated by the MoUs is seen by many industry observers as a powerful catalyst for more harmony in the fragmented and self-centred regulatory regimes of Europe’s gambling nations, a goal the EU Parliament and the European Commission is keen to promote.
