UK Gambling Commission sanctions ElectraWorks

Online gambling firm ElectraWorks (owned by GVC Holdings, and formerly bwin.party digital entertainment plc) has been issued a GBP 350,000 fine by the U.K Gambling Commission.

The fine pertains to an Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruling in August 2016 which found ElectraWorks responsible for “repeatedly misleading consumers with adverts relating to free bonuses,” in an advert on bwin.com.

A week later, another advert on bwin.com breached CAP codes and in April 2017, the UKGC found six similar breaches on ElectraWorks’ Casino King, party poker, scasino, Noble Casino, Casino Las Vegas, and party casino brands.  Again, in June 2017 the same breaches were found on the same sites and in August 2017, a similar breach was discovered on ElectraWorks’ Casino Las Vegas website.

In addition, the operator received a formal warning from the Commission for failing to ensure that the person responsible for marketing at the business holds a personal management licence.

Richard Watson, Commission Programme Director, said: “This fine should serve a warning to all gambling businesses that we will not hesitate to take action against those who mislead consumers with bonus offers or fail to ensure they are correctly licensed.”
