UK parlamentarians to be briefed on online gambling

News on 5 Apr 2016

Online gambling is the topic for the first in a seminar series designed to improve the knowledge of British lawmakers through events organised by the Parliamentary All Party Betting & Gaming Group.

A press release from the group says the inaugural seminar will focus on the future of internet gambling and is scheduled for April 19.

The speakers will be Clive Hawkswood, CEO of the Remote Gambling Association (RGA); Anthony Werkman, Director of Marketing and Operations, Betway and Richard Flint, CEO, Sky Betting & Gaming.

The group’s secretary, Steve Donoughue, said in a press release this week:

“We are very fortunate to have a group of Parliamentarians who are so keenly interested in the British gambling industry. They are not interested in the usual knee-jerk knock-about and are keen to get to grips with the real issues. Many of them have been involved with the industry for decades so are highly influential when gambling issues are debated. This seminar series will allow the trade associations and key industry members to directly communicate with the influencers of Westminster and Whitehall.”

Clive Hawkswood, CEO of the Remote Gambling Association and the key speaker said:

“Gambling is an issue that rarely seems to be out of the spotlight, but there has never been a more important time to engage with Parliamentarians to explain how the industry is addressing the challenges it faces and, just as critically, to listen and take full account of any concerns that they may have. The All Party Betting & Gaming Group’s series of seminars provide an ideal forum for this to take place. Each sector will have the opportunity to present itself and it is a very welcome initiative.”
