The trials and tribulations continue in UK horseracing with two British racecourses, Chester and Bangor, splitting from the Racecourse Media Group (RMG) umbrella and withdrawing from commercial negotiations with new Tote owner Betfred.
A deal signed by the Tote’s previous management and RMG will expire in March 2012 and renegotiations on commissions, levies and sponsorships are seemingly falling short of racing’s expectations.
Taking advantage of the uncertainty is a new fixed-odds betting service Data Tote who is reportedly courting large racecourses in order to get a foot in the door offering a fixed-odds starting price-based betting service to racegoers, reports the Guardian. The company has employed the services of former Tote regional manager Tony May to handle new business.
