Online gambling group Unibet has agreed to sponsor the Netherlands national cycling association KNWU in a four year deal worth Euro 7 million that commences in 2017.
The company’s logo will be carried on team shirts, along with that of the KNWU and the national flag. The company name cannot be used at present because the Dutch online licensing and regulatory regime is not yet up and running.
Unibet will replace the current head sponsor, Lotto.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the sponsorship, KNWU chair Marcel Wintels said: “Funding for sports is a complicated field of play. Sports must make the leap into the future; we cannot only continue with the current partners.”
