According to ESPN eSports, Valve Corporation is being sued by British Telecommunications (BT) for patent infringements in its Steam social entertainment platform and market place.
A legal filing in the Delaware Federal Court, reportedly seen by ESPN, details a federal lawsuit that alleges Valve has infringed at least four patents specifically identifying its Steam Broadcasting, Steam Chat and Steam Messaging processes along with Steam Library, third-party game storage.
“Despite BT’s repeated attempts to reach an amicable resolution with Valve, and BT’s numerous requests that Valve stop infringing the [patents], Valve has continued to infringe willfully and wantonly,” New York City law firm Proskauer Rosein, counsel for BT, wrote in the 111-page complaint.
“BT brings this action to recover the just compensation it is owed for Valve’s past infringement, and to prevent Valve from continuing to benefit from the patented inventions in the future without authorization or compensation to BT,” the filing reads.
