Online gamblers were intrigued this week by an email from Sportech betting subsidiary Vernons advising that the company will no longer accept deposits from the residents of 11 European countries.
No reason for the decision was given.
The email advised as follows:
“Due to the current regulatory position with regard to online gambling we have made the decision to no longer accept transactions from residents of the following countries – Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Pakistan, Poland, Russia and Sweden.
“As you can no doubt imagine we are disappointed that this decision has had to be made and we ask that you accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
“Should you have any unused account balance you may continue to place bets up to the 11th September 2012. Alternatively you may simply prefer to withdraw any unused funds before the account is closed on this date.
“Any unsettled bets on your account after the 11th September 2012 will stand and any winnings due will be forwarded directly to the credit/debit card registered.”
Early in August this year Vernon’s appeared to be promoting the Europa online casino as an alternative to its own services and players have inevitably linked this with the current advisory.
