Police in the Thanh Hóa province of Vietnam have announced the breakup of a US$58 million illegal online football betting ring and the arrest of 14 members, including two ringleaders identified as Nguyễn Thế Hiếu and Nguyễn Thành Trung.
Police raiding parties seized 20 mobile phones, five laptops and other evidence in an operation earlier this week on the business, spokesmen revealed.
The bust is the biggest to date by Thanh Hóa police, although six months ago, and working with the national police department for High-Tech Crime Prevention, the provincial command shut down a US$44.5 million gambling ring.
