Sen. Ryan McDougle’s daily fantasy sports regulatory proposal SB646 has cruised through the Virginia state Senate on a positive 28 vs. 10 vote and is now headed for the House
The proposal; is understood to require each operator to pay an annual fee of $50,000 to register with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which would receive independent audits from each gaming site on an annual basis. The funds would be used to cover the department’s administrative costs.
“Fantasy sports have become very popular in my district and across the Commonwealth,” Senator McDougle said recently. “Over a million individuals play fantasy sports now just in Virginia.”
Major DFS operator FanDuel, which has been energetically lobbying in the state, said that it would continue to work with lawmakers everywhere to to establish laws ensuring players are protected.
