Claims by DC Councillor Jack Evans that the bill to legalise online gambling in Washington DC had not been shared with council members before being included in a budget bill last year have been debunked by former mayor Vince Gray.
Speaking on Newstalk in an hour long interview with Bruce DePuyt, he confirmed that the decision was taken during his last days as chairman, and that the internet gambling plan “was very much at the forefront” and received the appropriate amount of scrutiny before being passed.
Proposer Michael A. Brown has made the same assertion that fellow councillors were fully informed.
Gray also noted that Congress had plenty of time to weigh in on the District’s plan, but had not done so either within the timeframe stipulated for such interventions or up until the present.
