Online betting group Betfair has once again demonstrated its flair for the innovative and unusual in marketing, hatching a plan to unleash five birds of prey above players and spectators at the Ryder Cup golf competition.
The specially trained flock of eagles and hawks are guaranteed a bird’s eye view of the action as they swoop and soar above Monty and chums, each trailing mini banners of unflappable support for Team Europe at Celtic Manor, the group has revealed.
Betfair spokesmen this week claimed there is nothing bird brained about the initiative. Betfair’s Andy Lulham told the marketing publication Drum: “We all know that the players will be looking for birdies and eagles, but I¹m not sure they¹ll be expecting ones carrying messages of support.
“The Betfair Birdies have been in training for the past couple of weeks so by the time we get to the first tee off we¹re confident that they will create quite a talking point.”
