On Tuesday the Maryland state Senate gave preliminary approval for two bills on daily fantasy sports; one putting the acceptability of DFS on the state ballot in November for the residents of Maryland to decide, and the other supporting the state Attorney General’s opinion that DFS is illegal in the state unless it is approved by the annual referendum and subsequently legislated.
The advent of daily fantasy sports has complicated the issue of legality in the state, where in 2012 legislators voted to formally legalise traditional season-long fantasy sports betting.
