The US division of UK bookmaker William Hill plc has significantly strengthened its presence in the US sports betting market folloing an expansion of its business relationship with US land gambling group Golden Entertainment Inc.
The new agreement will see the bookmaker managing Golden’s sports betting activity across the states of Nevada, Maryland and Montana.
Whilst Maryland and Montana have yet to legalise intrastate sports betting, Nevada has a well-established and lucrative industry that has been running for decades.
William Hill will be responsible for Golden betting activity at four Nevada properties acquired last year by Golden in an agreement with American Casino & Entertainment Properties. The bookmaker already runs the Golden sportsbooks at the Edgewater and Colorado Belle casinos in Laughlin, acquired by Golden from Marnell Gaming in July this year.
The two companies had an existing business relationship, with William Hill US managing sports betting for Golden’s Pahrump Nugget Hotel & Gambling Hall, and involvement in the installation of betting deposit kiosks at around 80 of Golden’s tavern and third-party gaming operations in Nevada.
Executives from both William Hill US and Golden applauded the expanded business relationship, which they characterised as “excellent”, and committed to growing the sportsbook business across legalised states.
The growing emphasis on sports betting in the US, and the opportunities arising from the recent Supreme Court strike down of PASPA auger well for Golden’s revenues, which reached $216.5 million in Q2-2018.
