UK Bookmaker William Hill has challenged the English women’s football team with the promise of the award of GBP 73 000 to the Women’s Sports and Fitness Foundation charity (WSFF) if the team wins the FIFA 2011 World Cup.
The partnership between bookmaker and charity has been undertaken to promote and raise the profile of women’s sport in England which in turn is hoped will increase sports media coverage and participation of the female game.
Sue Tibballs, chief executive, WSFF said: “If England win the World Cup it will be a real game changer for women’s sport in this country, so we’ve teamed up with William Hill to celebrate what we think would be the greatest ever moment in women’s sport.”
Graham Sharpe, William Hill added: “Women’s football is definitely on the up now – the FA Women’s Super League has had a great start, and now we’re off to Germany to deliver the goods as a national team.”
