Silicon Valley-based developer WinView, Inc. has closed a second round of financing raising $1.5 million.
Funds will be used to complete and launch a real-time synchronised sports app that allows fans to play skill-based, in-game competitions, including separate contests among friends and family, during live TV sporting events for cash rewards and prizes.
WinView said it plans on leveraging its “extensive experience in pioneering real-time interactive television games played on a mobile second screen, its foundational patents and unique business model”.
WinView raised $2 million in funds in its first financing round. Investors predominantly comprise senior executives within the consumer package goods industry, the company revealed.
“There is an inevitable progression of media and entertainment genres that leverage technology to reach the desired mobile and real-time consumption in Europe,” founder and chief executive officer Dave Lockton said.
“This axiom is already being applied to televised-sports-based games of chance and skill. The European migration of betting and fantasy-based gaming, from season to weekly to daily, which is now over 70 % live in-play on mobile, is primed to happen with televised sports in the U.S.”
WinView Games is expected to launch with the 2015 football season.
