The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Wisconsin has become the first tribe to ratify the Tribal Internet Gaming Alliance treaty, an inter-governmental agreement between tribes willing to work together to develop a single platform Internet gaming business, reports Indian Country Today.
A spokesman for the Lac du Flambeau band said the treaty does not bind it to any tribe or business venture, but instead creates an opportunity for tribal nations to work together and address potential legislative or regulatory issues. Tribes can opt out of the treaty at any time.
The spokesman said that the Lac du Flambeau Band intended to be at the forefront of internet gambling, and the treaty would assist it in achieving that goal.
