Whilst Wynn Resorts plans regarding online gambling in the United States are not entirely clear, owner Steve Wynn appears to be moving ahead with his plans to suss out the possibilities, and this week revealed that his team studying the industry is based in Philadelphia, the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Wynn is currently looking for a Philadelphia-based director of online gambling products, the publication philly.com reports, quoting Wynn Resorts spokesman Michael Weaver, who said:
“The group exploring online gaming for Wynn Resorts happens to be based in Philadelphia. Their work, and the fact that they live in Philadelphia, has no relationship to specific gaming activity in Pennsylvania.”
Coincidentally, this week the Pennsylvania state Senate passed a resolution calling for an investigation into legalised online gambling and its potential impact on the state and its tax revenues as neighbouring states like New Jersey and Delaware up the competition by embracing this form of gambling .
Wynn Resorts advertisements for the online gambling management post include these requirements:
“The Director of Products is a mission-critical role responsible for ensuring that the quality, breadth and depth of our real-money and social casino products on mobile, tablet and desktop web is second to none in the market. This position is based out of Philadelphia.”
“Candidate will take a hands-on leadership role in helping to set the product roadmap for the Company and ensuring the designs, features, and user-experiences of our products deliver extremely engaging experiences to our players. Candidate will work with in-house and third party product teams to help direct and define the various product designs to meet a very high level of product quality. This will include working with UX and UI designers, product engineers, product managers and product marketing teams. Candidate will be held accountable for the final quality of the product and user-experience.”
Interviewed by philly.com, Philadelphia Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Alan Greenberger predicted that state lawmakers won’t expand gaming to the internet unless the study tasked by the Senate conclusively finds it won’t hurt Pennsylvania’s existing bricks-and-mortar casinos.
He said that selecting Philadelphia as a base for Wynn’s online gambling study is probably more to do with geographical convenience than any imminent adoption of internet gambling by Pennsylvania.
