Zynga and Wynn Resorts to partner?

The San Francisco-based social gaming developer Zynga is believed to be in talks with land casino empire Wynn Resorts to create a potential online gambling partnership that will capitalise on the possibility of legal internet gambling in the United States, according to reports in the publication Inquisitr.com.

The news comes against a background of increasing interest among individual American states in the potentially lucrative business of online gambling, with indications that legalisation moves at state level could pre-empt dilatory federal attempts.

Zynga CEO Mark Pincus has for some months been publicly touting his company’s prospects of moving its virtual poker game into real-life betting, and sees significant opportunities in the sector .

However, Inquisitr points out that Zynga will need to work with other partners in addition to Wynn that are licensed to operate in each state where gambling laws have passed; Wynn is only licensed to operate casinos in Las Vegas.

If Zynga can’t break into the United States’ online gambling market it may feel compelled to open up online gambling apps in nations where the concept of regulated and licensed internet gambling is accepted, the publication opines.

Zynga presently has about 232 million average monthly active users across 166 countries. Its games are accessible on social networks like Facebook and mobile platforms globally.

It is understood that at least 20 U.S. states are considering moves to legalise online gambling in one form or another after the Justice Department reinterpreted the Wire Act as a ban only on sports betting and not other forms of online gambling.
